‘I’ve built over 10K kilometres of roads more than any gov’t in history’ – Akufo Addo

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo claims his administration has built nearly 10,000 km of roads since 2017.
This accomplishment, according to the President, makes his administration and term the finest in the nation’s history.

On March 30, 2022, he announced this in his State of the Nation Address.

“Our biggest infrastructure success is in the road sector. I realize the term “unprecedented” is often thrown about in our public discourse, but I use it deliberately. My administration has constructed, renovated, and rebuilt more roads than any previous government in Ghana’s history.

“In these five years, 10,875 km of new roads were built. Let me highlight that I had the honor and pleasure of commissioning the Tamale Interchange, the first of its kind in northern Ghana, which the people of Tamale celebrated.

“…it was the best birthday gift ever. “We will keep developing roads across the nation to speed up our opening,” he stated.

During his 6th SONA, Akufo-Addo also addressed the country’s present economic challenges.

He blamed Ghana’s economic woes on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Recent increases in the cost of fuel, food, and services have prompted many Ghanaians to call on the government to devise creative solutions to alleviate the situation.

“The Russian invasion of Ukraine has deteriorated the economic prospects for the whole globe, adding to COVID’s economic disaster. We in Ghana have not spared this phenomenon, which is reflected in increasing market and gasoline prices.

“The tragic events in Ukraine directly affect our life in Ghana. Mr. Speaker, 30% of our wheat flour and fertilizer imports are from Russia. Ukraine imports 60% of iron rods and other metal sheets, while Ghana exports about 20% of its manganese,” Nana Addo said.
